Heroes currently has more than 40 students enrolled in our programs. Below we highlight some of our student successes with students who have attended and graduated from our elementary program.
Gildas Gahire

Gildas is 9 years old and was born with cerebral palsy. He attended Heroes School for several years, where we worked on improving his speaking and gross motor abilities. Gildas learned how to sit and stand despite his abnormal muscle movements. His family was very happy with his intellectual improvement and speech improvement while at Heroes, and worked closely with us throughout his time with us. Gildas has now graduated from Heroes School and he is currently attending a main stream school in Kigali and is in Primary one. Gildas’ mother recently shared some of her thoughts on having a child with a disability in this blog post.

Sharif Tuyiringire

Sharif was one of our the first students at Heroes back in 2015. He was born with cerebral palsy and is now 15 years old. Sharif is very intelligent boy, but his difficulties using his upper limbs and walking led to his rejection from mainstream schools. When he joined Heroes, he could only crawl to move around. With the help from our physiotherapists at Heroes, he learned to stand on his own and then to walk! This transition was described as a “miracle” by his mother. Sharif has now graduated from Heroes and is enrolled at the HVP Gatagara inclusive school, where he is now in Primary one. He is boarding there with four other students who have graduated from Heroes.
