A Visit from Jumelage Rhineland-Palatinate to APEH-Heroes Inclusive School (APEH-HIS)

This Thursday, May 29th, APEH-HIS proudly welcomed a distinguished delegation from Jumelage Rhineland-Palatinate Rwanda Office. This visit was not just an event; it was a remarkable opportunity for meaningful exchange and collaboration. The delegation witnessed firsthand the inspiring progress of inclusive education in Rwanda, unfolding beautifully with each thoughtful step. Together, we are paving the way for a brighter, more inclusive future!

During their visit, the Head Teacher of APEH-HIS shared the school’s ongoing journey toward inclusive education. Despite the persistent challenges posed by a lack of specialized equipment and limited financial resources, the school has made commendable progress. Through dedication, creativity, and unwavering commitment of founders, staff and parents, the school community shows that inclusion is not only possible—it is already happening.

Classrooms are being transformed to accommodate learners of diverse abilities. Teachers are being equipped with knowledge and tools to support all children, including those with disabilities. Most importantly, the students themselves demonstrate that diversity strengthens, rather than limits, the learning environment.

APEH continues to seek partnerships that can help scale these efforts and deepen their impact. The goal is not merely to improve one school but to become a model that illustrates what is achievable when inclusion is prioritized—even in resource-constrained settings.

We urge all schools in Rwanda to take this important step forward. Inclusive education should not mean sending children with disabilities far from home to find a place to learn. It means welcoming them into local schools, where they can grow close to their families and communities. When children learn together, society progresses together.

At APEH, we believe that no child should be left behind. Let us all strive—parents, educators, partners, and policymakers—to build a Rwanda where inclusive education is the norm, not the exception. Every child, regardless of ability, deserves the chance to learn, belong, and thrive.
