Construction has started!

Since the day that we first opened our doors at Heroes, we have always been held back by the limitations of our space. We have operated for many years out of a converted rental home in Gikondo, a neighborhood in Kigali.

While this was fine for us to start, we soon ran out of space and constantly had issues with the space not fitting our needs. For example, it was very difficult and expensive to properly rennovate our space for children who use different mobility aids, such as wheelchairs or walkers. As a result, we have always dreamed of having a purpose-built facility for Heroes School.

We are thrilled to announce that our construction project has finally started! Through years of working with children with disabilities we have gained a lot of knowledge on exactly what type of building we desired. Working with an architect, we were able to turn our dreams into a plan and have designed an inclusive building which will accommodate children with all types of disabilities!

The breaking of ground for this project represents the realization of a dream we have had since we started Heroes School. We are beyond excited for our building to work for us to serve our children—our beloved Heroes—and their families!

Our new facility will provide a new beginning for children with disabilities who have special needs, and give them access to high quality education and rehabilitation services. It will allow us to help them gain independence through education, therapy, love and laughter.

We are looking forward to keeping you updated throughout the building process! For more photos and information on the construction project, we have published a short video on our YouTube channel:
